Play-by-Play (PxP)

The play-by-play announcer is the primary narrator of the game. Their job is to describe exactly what’s happening on the field, court, or rink – as it happens.

Responsibilities include:

-Describe the action quickly and clearly.

-Identify players, movements, scores, and changes in possession.

-Maintain energy and pacing throughout the broadcast.

Color Commentator (Analyst)

Responsibilities include:

-Provide insight on strategy, technique, or game flow.

-Share behind-the-scenes knowledge or personal stories.

-Complement, not compete with, the play-by-play voice.

Sideline Reporter

The sideline reporter is the eyes and ears on the ground. They bring stories from the bench, injury updates, and quick-hit interviews that can’t be captured from the booth.

Responsibilities include:

-Deliver short, informative reports without disrupting the game flow.

-Interview coaches and players before, during, or after the game.

-Relay updates from officials or team staff.

Studio Host

The host manages the broadcast before and after the game, as well as during halftime or breaks. They guide conversations, throw to analysts, and set the tone.

Responsibilities include:

-Introduce segments and analysts.

-Lead panel discussions or highlights.

-Keep the broadcast smooth and on time.
